What is Kizumonogatari? Kizumonogatari is the third part in the story of Bakemonogatari, a series of light novels by writer Nisio Isin and illustrated by Vofan. The first two volumes were adapted into a pair of anime films, and the third volume was going to be made into a movie slated for release in August 2016. However, due to production difficulties it has been delayed until at least 2017. It's the "second season" so it will also have TV broadcasts and other media releases following its cinematic release. We'll begin with a summary of Bakemonogatari, followed by an introduction to the protagonist, Araragi Koyomi. We currently have a pretty good idea of what will happen in Kizumonogatari. These are the details we know so far: • Bakemonogatari was a series of five light novels released from September 2006 to August 2010. The ending of Bakemonogatari overlaps with the beginning of Kizumonogatari. • The series received two anime adaptations: a TV version aired from July 3 to September 19, 2009, and a movie version was released in January 2012. • The TV series was directed by Akiyuki Shinbo, while the movie was directed by Tatsuya Oishi. • Monogatari refers to "single narrative" or "one narrative." While "monogatari" can also mean "anecdote," this is not generally used in the light novel series. "Kizumonogatari" translates to "final story," so it means Bakemonogatari is the last story in the series. At the end of Bakemonogatari, Hanekawa Tsubasa and Araragi Koyomi share a kiss and say goodbye, and they both go their separate ways. A few weeks later, Araragi finds himself facing a guy who looks like Oshino Shinobu. Right after the start of Kizumonogatari, we see Hanekawa helping Araragi deal with this new threat. After that, Araragi finds out why Oshino left: he didn't want to interfere with his relationship with Hanekawa. To explain what happened with Oshino, we'll need to go back to the beginning of the series. The publisher for this light novel series is Fujimi Shobo, and the author is Nisio Isin (限水 嘉臣). The light novels sold over 22 million copies since they were first published in 2006 and 2013. The anime adaptations of Bakemonogatari and Kizumonogatari were both produced by SHAFT. Bakemonogatari aired on TV from September 3 to September 19, 2009 and was directed by Akiyuki Shinbo. It had its fourth TV broadcast from January 4 to March 2, 2014. cfa1e77820
